After more than a dozen Spring Breaks on Padre Island we decided to diversify our vacations. So we took a whirlwind trip to Jamaica for our 2005 excape. Rather than fighting the college crowds at the regular Spring Break places in Negril and Montego Bay we took a secluded sojourn to the captive family resort of Starfish Trelawny near the town of Falmouth.
Timing of the School Spring Break overlapped precisely with Elizabeth's due date for little Carolyn so they couldn't go, of course. Not only that, but little Joe wanted Grandma to play with him while Mom, Dad and Sis were busy at the hospital. So, Patty was unable to travel with us this year, either. We kept our trip to 4 days, but were still able to jam in a weeks worth of sun and surf.
We got a chance to relax by the pool, play water sports, walk on the beach and enjoy never-ending tables of food and bottles of rum. Jordy & Tessa were gone from morning to night playing water volleyball, basketball or mini-golf, and some of us risked life and limb by climbing up Dunn's River Falls or scaling the Rock Wall at Starfish.
Just like on Padre Island, we enjoying Jamaica's sunsets, margaritas and the tasty shrimp. To that, add booze dispensers in every room and a buffet restaurant to suit your needs at any time within a few yards from where you're relaxing or playing. We found the Caribbean to be a lot like the Gulf of Mexico and the water was generally a lot clearer. .
Apart from the substantial hastle in Jamaican customs & immigration both coming and going, the trip wasn't much longer than a Padre Trip. It was great to see something different for a change, and now we're hoping to get off to California for our next escape so we can see the Pacific for a change.
